'No time to cut training budget,' Warns Caterer reader
In a recent letter to the Caterer and Hotelkeeper magazine, Ken Wheeler, Director of Practical Sales and Marketing, reacted strongly to a recent article in the magazine regarding training cuts throughout the hospitality industry.
"Racing drivers are advised to accelerate into bends rather than brake, which is the normal human reaction. Recession is a time in which the best excel and when training and marketing (the other budget that always gets cut) spend needs to increase to take advantage of the situation."
Wheeler continues: "The desire to excel in what we do and the acceleration of training and marketing combine to create a new word - 'exceleration'. Our staff are the best asset we have and should be encouraged, trained and rewarded so they too may excel.
"The inevitable consequence of cutting training and marketing budgets is to move into a downward spiral and one that others who do 'excelerate' will use to their advantage."
