Gliffaes Country House Hotel - Celebrating 60 years with the Brabner family
1948 - 2008
Next year will be the family's 60th year at Gliffaes. It was shortly after returning from serving in the Palestine Police in 1948 that Sam and Jane Brabner took on Gliffaes.
The hotel was known to Sam as he had fished there before the war and he needed little encouragement to settle down in such a magnificent part of Wales.
The hotel grew steadily along with the growth in disposable income and increased travel. Sam and Jane's son and his wife, Nick and Peta, took over the reins in 1972 and began the process of adding batrooms to every room, increasing the size of the dining room and adding the conservatory.
Then, in 1998, Nick and Peta's daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Jame Suter, became the third generation of Brabners at Gliffaes.
Quite how the anniversary next year will be celebrated remains to be decided!
